Indeed, in a nutshell! To make brownie mix into cake mix, just change the fat, egg, and leavener ratios. We must lower the fat while increasing the eggs and leavener.
Brownie and cake mixes are quite similar (which is why its also easy to turn cake mix into brownies). A box of brownie mix contains sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda or baking powder, and maybe a few more tiny components that are common in packaged dry products.
Cake mix, on the other hand, contains sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda or powder, and a few additional preservatives. Have you noticed anything? The components are same!
True, the amounts may differ somewhat, but the core elements are the same. As a result, we should be able to quickly convert a brownie mix into a cake mix.

Difference Between Cake and Brownie
Brownies, as we all know, are considerably denser than cakes. If you closed your eyes and someone handed you a slice of chocolate cake and a taste of brownie, you’d know which was which only by the texture. Brownies are thick and chewy, while cake is drier and softer in texture.
When making a cake from a brownie mix, you don’t necessarily want the density of a traditional brownie. You probably want something lighter and fluffier.
Therefore we’ll need to make the brownie batter lighter and fluffier in some way. This entails deviating from the directions on the box and forging our own path!
In no time, we’ll be saying goodbye to that chewy brownie texture.
What to Change
There are three major changes that must be made in order to convert brownie mix to cake mix, but the best part is that it isn’t that difficult! Only a few changes to the fat amount, egg quantity, and baking powder, and you’re done.
The directions on the side of the brownie mix box will serve as the foundation for our new cake recipe, but we will make a few changes. Let us investigate more.
When comparing brownie mix to cake mix, the first thing that stands out is the amount of fat. Brownie mixes need substantially more fat to be added, which is one of the reasons brownies are more thick than cakes.
Hence, in order to make a brownie mix lighter, we must reduce or replace part of the fat. To put it another way, if you want to save money on oil, this is the way to go.
Applesauce will moisturize in the same manner as oil does, but without the heaviness. So, goodbye, oil, and hello, applesauce.
Adding eggs will also improve the texture of the mixture. When you add one additional egg to your brownie batter, it will become less chewy and more cakey when cooked.
So have those eggs ready, and if the packet of brownie mix says to add one egg, add two. The texture is already becoming more cakey!

There is probably already baking powder or baking soda (which are not the same thing) in the brownie mix, but we will need to add extra to make it more cake-like. A teaspoon of baking powder is all that is required to raise the brownies to cake height.

Before adding the liquid components, stir the baking powder into the dry elements of the box mix. This ensures that there are no baking powder lumps in your batter.

Time to Bake!
Making brownies and cake follow the same basic guidelines. Typically, the brownie mix box will direct you to bake the brownies at 350 degrees F for around 20 minutes. This is also true for our freshly made cake batter.
To determine whether your brownie cake is done, insert a toothpick or knife into the middle of the cake and see if it comes out cleanly, with no sticky batter attached.
A clean toothpick or knife indicates that the cake is ready to be removed from the oven! Let it to cool before removing it from the pan.
What to Expect
What will your brownie cake look and taste like now that it’s finished? It’ll look and taste just like a luscious chocolate cake!
Although it is true that there is no such thing as a free lunch, it is also true that there is no such thing as a free lunch.
The tweaks we proposed would undoubtedly result in a much more cakey product (no chewy brownie texture here! ), and who doesn’t like a delicious substantial chocolate cake?
I guarantee no one will ever know you used a brownie mix!
